The withdrawal of the Miers nomination shows you the power of the right-wing media and their influence over Washington. As Coulter, Hannity and Limbaugh expressd their doubts in Miers, the Senators got the signal to not follow their President in supporting Miers. Three weeks later and a forced withdrawal by Miers puts Bush back in the nominating chair.
The buzz around Washington, another tool rather than actual speculation, is that Bush should turn around and nominate a purely conservative Justice. One with which there is no doubt on the nominees views. The Republian Party knows it is time to cash in that politcal weight and do something for the party. So much like Miers was forced out, the party will force in a strict conservative.
Bush is expected to make another nomination soon. At this point in his predency, it is clear that Bush marches to his own beat which has upset the conservatives here or there. The conservative were not about to allow Bush to give up the chance on putting conservatives on the bench. This is what you do as a party. Win the elections and put in power those that share your view.
