According to a document seen by Reuters, Irish VAT is expected to rise by 2 percent and despite denials from Dublin, it appears very likely that Kenny’s visit to Berlin this week saw him ask Angela Merkel for approval of his spending plans for 2012.

Irish now have to get German permission for anything

He had to ask Germany for permission to tax his own people??

british now need to consult with merkel/germany? hmmmm

as arty johnson of rowan and martin's laugh in used to say,
"verrry interestinggg".

what next, "consultations" with spain and italy?

i'm betting ireland wants its 2 per cent VAT increase for the 2011
christmas shopping season.
perhaps they'll need to consult with merkel as well.

Europe is the home of the Germans. For centuries others have tried to steal power, but time and time again, the Germans have remained. If it was up to the slavs and the Turks, Germans would be displaced in their own homeland.

With the de-militarization of Europe, Germany has finally been able to position itself economically as the center of the Eurozone.

Loss of WWII or no, Germany may have received a blessing in disguise from the United States. We'll see.

War is a biological necessity of the first importance, a regulative element in the life of mankind which cannot be dispensed with, since without it an unhealthy development will follow, which excludes every advancement of the race, and therefore all real civilization.-Friedrich von Bernhardi

What can be said for a man who would allow his home to be invaded by strangers who demanded they be fed, clothed, housed and granted the rights of the first-born? What can be said for a ruling elite that permits this to be done to the nation, and who celebrate it as a milestone of moral progress?-Pat Buchanan
