WASHINGTON—A surge of high-potency marijuana illegally smuggled into the United States from Canada is fuelling a rise in drug dependency among young Americans, the Bush administration's drug czar says.

A frustrated John Walters, the director of the U.S. National Drug Control office, yesterday signalled Washington's ongoing irritation with what it sees as a lax attitude toward drug crimes north of the border, something that has forced it to redeploy drug patrols from the Mexican border to its northern flank.

Walters conceded yesterday American authorities are making no dent in the flow of Canadian pot and he said Canadian police and prosecutors have told him lenient Canadian courts are a root of the problem.

"The big new factor on the scene ... is the enormous growth of high potency marijuana from Canada," Walters said.

"This is a problem. It requires joint action and we will continue to work with Canadian government on this.

"But right now, the trend (does not show) this is getting smaller."

The Bush administration has been vocal in its concern over Canadian "grow ops," ecstasy manufacturers and a move by the past Liberal government to decriminalize marijuana possession, but Walters' message takes on a special urgency now.

The problem U.S. President George W. Bush has with drug smugglers on both his southern and northern borders is expected to be raised when he meets with Prime Minister Paul Martin and Mexican President Vicente Fox at a trilateral summit in Waco, Texas, on March 23.

What a load of bollocks.

It doesn't start with skunk. It starts with a cigarette behind the bike sheds at lunch time, then a half bottle of vodka on a friday night bought from the dodgy off licence at the bottom of the road. but we wont worry about that because they're both taxable and socially acceptable. yeah you can drink as much as you like then maybe get in your car and drive home taking out a couple of kids on the way, then when you get home if you feel like it you can give the missus a good beating and if you're a big drinker maybe the kids as well. then in about 30 years time if you keep it up you can die a really slow and painful death costing the tax payer billions each year.

The out lawing of cannabis is a really stupid law founded on outdated economics and used now days purely as a political tool. Millions are wasted each year trying to enforce a law thats completely unenforcable. Mankind has smoked hash for thousands of years and will continue to do so regardless of any stupid law that any government ever imposes. cannabis is a wonder plant . it can be used to make . Rope , Clothes , Paper , Resin , oil and a whole lot of other things besides. It's eco friendly too. Not to mention it's medicinal and psychoactive qualitys. This crazy law should be abolished throughout the world without delay.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm gonna burn one down!

I completely agree Bob. You know, the DEA from the states likes to fly choppers over the border in the late evenings, and burn down LEGAL marijuana grow-ops in British Columbia. Legal because they are government sanctioned fields, for the purpose of making oils, paints, and resins. Ok, they burn whats there to smoke to, but big deal. I'm not sure what america is so afraid of when it comes to marijuana, they've got A LOT more to worry about with the Meth epedemic.
The marijuana industry in B.C is 6 Billion dollars. Our government is aware of that and would be wise to cultivate and continue to grow it legally throughout Canada, its good for the industry. The only reason we haven't completely legalized it, like in Amsterdam, is because of the American concervatives who whine and get irrate over the discussion of legalization. We've got them to, Stephen Harper.
Then again, their is a store in Vancouver called Da Kine that sells bags of weed over the counter, as well as pipes and the lot.

You know how the Feds can profit from this?

Instead of trying to fight a Tsunami (what it currently is) what they should to is legalize it... regulate it.. and tax it.... like Tobacco..

They would make money hand over fist.. and the products would supposedly be better.

The revenue from this could be used to combat serious drugs like Cocaine.. and Meth or whatever is out there that day..

- Hemp seed oil is lower in saturated fats than any other vegetable oil including soybean and canola.

product quality is important. at the moment here in the uk all hash is really low grade cut to the limit with anything the dealer can lay his hands on. Do you think he cares what he cuts it with as long as he doubles his money he dont care. Kids here in the uk smoke this shit because they cant get their hands on or cant afford nice pure natural weed. This does way more damage to them than weed ever could and who knows where the money goes? I've smoked weed all of my adult life. I've never had cocaine or any other man made drug and never will . make all the dumb laws you want. Nobody gives a shit because it's unenforcable

The Alex Jones Report March 10 2005

Alex analyses an old government propaganda film called 'Reefer Madness' which depicts people who smoke marijuana as murderers. The film can be used to illustrate the hypocisy of the government in attacking any drugs which they do not control, while shipping the rest of them into the country to destroy communities.
